Our Neighborhood
Long Island City, N.Y. 11101
LIC is on the western edge of Queens, near the neighborhoods of Astoria, Sunnyside, and Greenpoint, and across the East River from Manhattan. Long Island City was formerly a city of its own (hence its name), and was created in 1870 from the merger of the Village of Astoria and various surrounding hamlets of Ravenswood, Hunters Point, Sunnyside, and Blissville. The city become part of the City of Greater New York in 1898. For decades, the area was an industrial and manufacturing hub, until very recently, when in 2001 the city rezoned the neighborhood for residential use as well. Since then, "Strong Island City" has grown exponentially, with many new residents calling LIC home.
Currently, the neighborhood is known for its museums: MoMA PS 1, the Noguchi Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park, and its many restaurants, breweries, shops and green spaces. Long Island City is also home to Silvercup Studios, Citibank, Uber, Met Life, FreshDirect, and JetBlue.
The F train is two blocks away from Tammany House, and the G, E, M, N, R, W, and 7 are all nearby. We are 10 minutes away from Midtown Manhattan.
